BIOTIN : A Dietary Supplement: Biotin is one of the B complex vitamins that help the body to convert food into energy.

"Biotin" comes from the old Greek word "biotos," which signifies "life" or "food." B vitamins, and mainly biotin, help keep your skin, hair, eyes, liver, and nervous system strong. Biotin is also a critical nutrient during pregnancy, as it's significant for embryonic development.

The vast majority of people get the biotin they need from eating a healthy diet, but there have been numerous cases that getting more biotin can control your glucose, promote hair growth, skin, and nails, and help pregnant mothers to have healthier babies. Since it's water-soluble, additional biotin will just go through your body when you urinate. While most people can deal with biotin supplements, a few people report mild side effects like nausea and stomach related problems(digestive issues). There are no known toxicity indications related to too much biotin. Some investigation, including the animal study, recommends that individuals with type 2 diabetes may benefit by taking biotin supplements to help regulate blood glucose levels.

According to another study performed on animals, biotin may help prevent kidney damage in individuals with insulin-dependent type 1 diabetes.

Health benefits of Biotin

Biotin provides a significant source of making energy just as keeping up or maintaining the functions of the body. Like all vitamins, your body requires biotin to stay healthy. There are several systems that biotin helps keep strong. A portion of these includes your liver, nervous system, hair, eyes, and many more.

Biotin is beneficial in treating several medical conditions. Some of these conditions include:

Hyperglycemia – Hyperglycemia, or high blood glucose, happens when there is an excessive amount of sugar in the blood. This happens when your body has too little insulin (the hormone that transports glucose into the blood), or if your body can't utilize insulin appropriately. The condition is regularly connected with diabetes. Hyperglycemia is blood glucose more than 125 mg/dL (milligrams per deciliter) while fasting (not eating for eight hours; an individual with fasting blood glucose more prominent than 125 mg/dL has diabetes). An individual has weakened glucose tolerance, or pre-diabetes, with a fasting blood glucose of 100 mg/dL to 125 mg/dL.

  • An individual has hyperglycemia if their blood glucose is more than 180 mg/dL one to two hours in the wake of eating.
  • If hyperglycemia is un treated for an extensive period of time, you can harm your nerves, veins, tissues and organs. Injury to veins can build your danger of cardiovascular failure and stroke, and nerve injury may also prompt eye damage, kidney injury and non-healing wounds.

Hyperlipidemia – Hyperlipidemia or dyslipidemia is moreover called high blood cholesterol. Cholesterol is a waxy white greasy molecule which is a crucial portion of each cell layer. It is likewise a structure block for some significant molecules, for example, testosterone, estrogen and different hormones, just as bile acids, which are a fundamental piece of many body functions. It is synthesized in the body, and furthermore consumed from animal foods.

Cholesterol levels connect with the danger of creating coronary disease. This is a direct result of fatty development, called plaque, under the internal coating, or endothelium, of the veins. As the plaque develops bigger, it ulcerates or breaks on a superficial level.

Various kinds of cholesterol are arranged by their abundance of cause and lipoprotein content, as LDL, VLDL, IDL, HDL, and chylomicrons. One type of elevated cholesterol is because of a hereditary deformity which takes out LDL receptors, and forestalls the take-up of LDL into the cells. This is called familial hypercholesterolemia.

Some people say that taking biotin supplements will improve your hair and nails.

Maximum people get sufficient biotin by their normal diet. There are at present no known unfavorable results of biotin when recommended by a doctor or through normal dietary intake.

There are some situations where certain dietary intake has caused a deficiency of biotin. Studies have shown that women who smoke build the metabolism towards the biotin in their bodies which leads to the deficiencies of biotin in their bodies.

Another case demonstrated that eating raw eggs- especially the whites of the eggs-consistently can bring deficiency of biotin. In this case, the deficiency acquired a condition called biotin-responsive limb weakness. This condition mimics quadriplegia. The regular eating of raw egg whites was used in another study that demonstrated this caused a biotin deficiency too.

Common symptoms of a biotin deficiency include:

    • Hair loss or thinning
    • High cholesterol
    • Rash on the skin
    • Heart problems

An excessive amount of biotin is anything over the suggested measurements. This suggested amount contains what you normally get from your normal diet.

    • Organ meats (liver, kidney)
    • Nut butter
    • Soybeans and legumes
    • Whole grains and oats
    • Cauliflower
    • Bananas
    • Mushrooms
Since food-processing procedures like cooking can turn biotin inefficient, raw, or less-prepared versions of these foods contain more active biotin.
