CANDIDA - ITS SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENT

CANDIDA - ITS SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENT

Candida albicans is the most common type of yeast infection. It predominantly occurs in areas such as the mouth, intestinal tract, and vagina. It may also affect the skin and other mucous membranes. When the immune system is strong, this type of yeast infection does not develop into a serious condition. In individuals where the immune system is not functioning properly, the candida infection can turn out to be dangerous. This happens because it migrates to other parts of the body such as the blood and membranes around the heart or brain. This causes serious candida symptoms and is referred to as invasive candidiasis. Candida is a fungus. Its main function is to facilitate nutrient absorption and digestion when it is present in optimal levels in the body. When there are excess levels of candida, the symptoms associated with candida may appear. If left untreated in the digestive tract, candida breaks down the walls of the intestinal lining. It also penetrates the bloodstream. This process causes the elimination of byproduct toxins which cause various health conditions like leaky gut syndrome.

When there is an imbalance in the body’s natural pH, it stimulates the overgrowth of candida. It is essential to ensure the presence of Good and healthy bacteria along with a properly functioning immune system for overcoming this infection. When the growth of candida gets out of control in the body, it is known as candida overgrowth syndrome (COS). This is a serious health condition and medical intervention is necessary. Individuals who are infected with candida may also experience new sensitivities, allergies, or intolerances to a variety of foods. The main category of foods that are known to cause sensitivity in such people includes dairy, eggs, corn, and gluten.

Symptoms of candida infection

  • Chronic Fatigue

One of the most commonly noticed symptoms of candida is chronic fatigue. While a candida infection is not the only cause of chronic fatigue syndrome, studies show that it increases the risk of developing chronic fatigue syndrome.

  • Mood Disorders

Individuals with candida overgrowth may experience a wide range of symptoms ranging from dramatic mood swings, anxiety, irritability, depression, and panic attacks.

  • Recurring Vaginal and Urinary Tract Infections

When an individual experiences recurring infections mainly in the urinary tract or vagina, candida may be one of the most probable diagnoses of the problem. It is established that candida is a sexually transmitted disease. One partner who suffers from candida infection can spread it to several other people. It is recommended in women to significantly reduce the risk of developing candida infection by avoiding tight-fitting underwear. Another precaution found to be effective is by avoiding hot baths during an active infection.

  • Oral Thrush

Oral thrush is a yeast infection that is caused by the use of prednisone or other oral corticosteroids. In such cases, it is not treated immediately, it may spread throughout the body, affecting various body parts like the digestive tract, lungs, liver, and heart valves. Oral candida is a communicable infection.

  1. Sinus Infections

One of the less common candida symptoms is sinus infections. In individuals who are suffering from Candida infection, the sinuses get affected. This in turn can result in a persistent cough, post-nasal drip, an increase in congestion, seasonal allergies, and other flu-like symptoms.

  • Intestinal Distress

One of the most troubling symptoms of candida is the presence of intestinal distress. When healthy gut bacteria are absent in the lining of the digestive tract, it may manifest in the form of symptoms such as Persistent flatulence, burping, bloating, constipation or diarrhea, and stomach cramps. Candida destroys the healthy gut and weakens its ability to fight off the infection. It leads to a condition known as dysbiosis where the bacteria in the gut are out of balance.

  • Brain Fog

Along with mood changes and chronic fatigue, brain fog is one of the symptoms of candida. Its overgrowth can also show other signs like lack of focus, poor physical coordination, difficulty in concentrating on tasks, and poor memory.

Treatment of candida infections

  • Changes in the diet

The first step in the natural treatment of candida includes dietary modifications to boost the functioning of the immune system. This can be achieved by the elimination of sugar, alcohol, and refined carbohydrates as they contribute to the growth of the candida in the body. Instead, foods such as organic vegetables like carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach, kale, and asparagus should be included in the diet. Other foods that play a significant role in providing relief from the symptoms of candida like sweet potatoes, yams, peas, lentils, kidney beans, carrots, beets, corn, zucchini, yellow squash, rutabaga, and pumpkin.

Food products such as cultured dairy preferably goat milk and kefir, are beneficial in treating candida. kimchi and sauerkraut are effective probiotics that are good additions to the diet along with unsweetened cranberry juice. Their mechanism of action is that they create an acidic environment that makes it difficult for candida to thrive. Consumption of Fermented vegetables that contain microflora is beneficial in protecting the lining of the intestinal wall. Regular intake of fermented foods can help improve the immune system. It is effective in making the body less hospitable for the growth of candida. Using Coconut oil is beneficial in fight candida due to its antimicrobial properties. The presence of lauric acid and caprylic acid in coconut oil destroys the harmful candida in the body.

  • Milk thistle supplements

Using milk thistle supplements help in cleansing the liver from the side effects of prescription medications such as steroids, birth control, and antibiotics, environmental pollution, heavy metals, and the damaging effects of chemotherapy and radiation. Milk thistle when included in the diet helps the body recover from the negative effects of candida infection. It also creates an environment where candida ceases to thrive. Using Alvizia milk thistle supplements is useful in removing the toxic wastes from the body and helps in regulating the process of liver detoxification.

  • Vitamin C

Regular intake helps in the stimulation of the adrenal glands. It also plays a vital role in restoring the functioning of the immune system.

  • Essential oils

Using essential oils like Clove oil, oregano oil, and myrrh oil help in destroying a wide variety of parasites and fungi mainly candida in the body. Lavender oil inhibits the growth of candida. It is also effective in preventing the spread of candida infection.

  • Garlic

Garlic is a potent incredible anti-bacterial, antimicrobial and antifungal agent. Garlic is effective as an intra-vaginal suppository during yeast infections such as candida.
