Nutrition Made Simple

Studies show that some unhealthy lifestyle activities have a profound effect in crippling the immune system such as excessive intake of sugar and carbs, lack of proper sleep, drinking tap water that is unfiltered, remaining indoors without exposure to the sun, and chronic dehydration.

High sugar and carb intake

Studies show that excessive consumption of highly loaded sugar and carbs in the diet have a weakening effect on the immune system. It is a known fact that white blood cells need vitamin C to effectively carrying out proper body functions. Since sugar and vitamin C are similar in structure, they both can vie for the possibility of entering the cells at the site of the Glut -1 receptor. In such a scenario, glucose is more preferred above vitamin C and thus it negatively impacts the immune response.

Regular intake of foods that are rich in sugar may also contribute to various infections such as candida along with causing a loss in essential nutrients such as vitamin C, glutathione, and also zinc. This proves that such individuals who prefer a diet rich in sugars should also consume adequate immune boosters to ensure optimal immune response.

Poor sleep

Studies show that lack of proper sleep is a cause for triggering inflammatory reactions along with an imbalance in the blood glucose levels and also may lead to certain metabolic disorders.  Increased stress response along with high cortisol levels also impair immune function.

Natural immunity boosters

The intake of essential nutrients helps in boosting the functioning of the immune system to fight inflammation-causing pathogens. Some of the natural immunity boosters include :

Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 is essential for the smooth functioning of various metabolic activities in the body. Often it is found that the deficiency of vitamin D3 occurs as a result of the lack of exposure to sunlight as well as insufficient consumption of meat products. Increased exposure to sunlight along with supplementing with vitamin D also helps in achieving optimal vitamin D levels in the body.

Zinc plays an important role in regulating the immune response by correcting both over and under effective immune systems. The major contribution of zinc in the body is its action in the regulation of interferon-alpha which is a human cytokine that inhibits the duplication of viruses within the body.

Zinc also has a contributory role in the various enzymatic reactions in the body such as that of superoxide dismutase ( SOD) which is an essential antioxidant. This antioxidant helps in safeguarding the DNA thereby inhibiting the replication of viruses and also putting an end to the process of accumulation of waste products in the body which is formed as a result of various metabolic reactions.

Vitamin C

The main function of vitamin C in the body is to support the white blood cells for their mechanism of defense against the foreign pathogens that invade the body. Vitamin C also plays an important role in damaged tissue repair by controlling the inflammatory response. The other function of vitamin C is because of its action similar to antihistamine where it acts by managing the excessive inflammatory reactions to various conditions such as cold, flu, and other types of allergies.

One of the most effective immunity boosters is beta-glucan due to which is also known as the ‘biological response modifier’. The main function of beta-glucan is to combine white blood cells and help in their functioning by facilitating immune coordination. The extracts of beta-glucan are found most abundantly in mushrooms, yeast, algae, and oats.

Beta-glucans, which are a type of polysaccharides, can promote the functioning of T cells, macrophages, natural killer (NK) cells as well as cytokines like interleukin 1 and 2. The other area of the action of beta-glucan is that it activates both innate as well as an acquired immune response in the body.

Olive leaf extract

The extracts of olive leaf have been found to contain many medicinal actions such as antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial. Along with these functions, olive leaf extract has also been found useful in providing support to the immune system by promoting the capability of the white blood cells to destroy the invading microbes by engulfing them.

Omega 3 fatty acids

Alpha-linolenic Acid (ALA) and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) are types of omega 3 fatty acids that have a major role to play in enhancing an immune response in the body. Their main functions include building healthy brain tissue, supporting proper eye health, improving the mood, balancing the lipid levels, supporting joint health, and also promoting a healthy immune response. Other effects of omega 3 fatty acids are in reducing inflammation by lowering the occurrence of allergies and also the upper respiratory tract infections. Alvizia healthcare omega 3 fish oil capsules are extremely beneficial in boosting the body’s immune system.

The main action of glutathione is due to its antioxidant property where it limits inflammation and also controls the activity of various other antioxidants like vitamin C. Glutathione helps in the elimination of toxins from the body thereby acting as a potent detoxicating agent. Glutathione also stimulates T cells in the body which further help in the fight against the invading pathogens.

Foods such as avocados, onions, spinach, asparagus, eggs, and turmeric are naturally rich sources of glutathione. Since the production of glutathione decreases along with advancing age, it is necessary to supplement glutathione with foods that contain glycine, glutamic acid as well as cysteine which help in the synthesis of glutathione.

Extracted from the turmeric root, Curcumin has potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant effects. The main mechanism of action of Curcumin is by helping the immune system by generating antibody responses thereby fighting against the infections and alleviating the symptoms in conditions such as arthritis, asthma, and allergies. Curcumin also acts by limiting the body’s exposure to oxidative stress thereby promoting proper circulation and lymphatic function in the body.
