  • Weight loss: green coffee bean extract is one of the most popularly consumed weight loss supplements in many countries. There have been many animal studies that have been carried out to study the effect of green coffee beans on weight loss. Mice were treated with the extract of green coffee and at the end of each of these studies; a reduction in body weight and accumulation of fats was seen. However, human studies have been inconclusive in this manner. Although many participants lost weight at the end of the research study, some people did not experience any effects as such. So, the results were mixed and more research is needed to conclude this effect in human beings.
  • May reduce risks of some chronic diseases: the chlorogenic acid content present in the extract of green coffee beans is responsible for helping the supplement in reducing risks of chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and other heart diseases. An 8-week long study was carried out with 50 people who had metabolic syndrome (a group of many factors, such as high blood pressure, high blood sugar levels, that may increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes). They were given 400 mg of extract of decaffeinated green coffee beans, daily, two times. At the end of this study, the participants experienced improved levels of fasting blood sugar, blood pressure, and waist size. The results were quite promising but scientists still recommend more research to conclude these effects properly. Many early research studies also suggest that having a green coffee beverage may reduce the risk of hyperlipidemia by reducing the levels of cholesterol. It may also work against Alzheimer’s disease, type-II diabetes, and some other conditions too.

Green coffee vs. Black coffee

People nowadays are getting more serious about their health, and green coffee is becoming more popular than normal regular or roasted coffee. Green coffee beans are simply unroasted coffee beans, growing on the coffee plant. The roasting process enhances the taste of raw coffee. Hence, the coffee that is prepared after roasting has a distinctive aroma and taste that may work to brew the beverage but lacks nutritional values. Henceforth, black coffee isn’t something that could help you in health or weight management, green coffee is considered a better option in such a case. Roasted coffee beans contain a high concentration of caffeine, i.e. 100 mg per one regular cup of this beverage. So, it is highly advised to not drink black coffee frequently during the day. On the other hand, green coffee contains just 20 mg of caffeine in one cup. So, you may have 4 to 5 servings of green coffee during a day. Green coffee is also generally safe when used for weight loss or weight management. So, to conclude, green coffee has much more benefits as compared to black coffee, and may also help people during weight loss and weight management.
