What is fatigue?

Fatigue is a term used for feeling of tiredness, reduced energy and involves lack of motivation. One should make an appointment with their doctor, if the feeling of tiredness and fatigue is persistent as there might an underlying medication condition behind it.Common symptoms of fatigue include:

1. Eat Properly

  • First and foremost is having a balanced diet with all the sufficient nutrients and vitamins, can help boost your energy levels. For instance, foods high in refined in carbohydrates can cause you to feel tired and weak quickly. Add in high-fiber fruits, vegetables, whole grain cereals and iron rich foods in your diet

  • A healthy, good breakfast promotes your metabolism and provides you energy to burn, keeping you away from the feeling of hunger for long periods of time in the day. So, don't skip your breakfast and eat carbohydrate-rich food such as cereals and whole grain bread

  • Prefer eating in bits not bytes. Instead of eating large meals, three times a day, try eating small mini meals very three to four hours in order to maintain a constant blood sugar and insulin levels. This is because large meals can lead to a drop in blood sugar level, causing one to feel less energetic and tired.

2. Get moving

You might think the exercising can cause you to feel fatigue, but you're wrong. Studies have shown that physical activity can help boost one's energy levels. 3. Have a good night's sleep

Relax yourself prior to going to sleep by doing some light stretching and creating a comfortable, peaceful environment.
If you feel extremely drowsy during the day due to lack of sleep, nap for no more than 30 minutes that will help restore wakefulness and fight off your sleepiness.

4. Stay hydrated

Loss of water or dehydration can lead  low energy levels making you feel drained and exhausted. Drinking plenty of water can improve your performance can increase your concentration and mental alertness. Take at least 8 glasses of water a day to keep your body fresh and active.

5. Cut back on caffeine

Excessive intake of caffeine can have a negative impact on your overall performance and causing one to feel sapped and irritable. Despite the initial boost of energy, it is important to consume caffeine in moderation. Caffeine is commonly found in:

  • Tea

  • Coffee

  • Energy drinks

  • Cola, etc.

6. Drink less alcohol

Limit your alcohol consumption because even if it can help you to fall asleep, it depresses your central nervous system and lowers your blood sugar level, and cause poor sleep and fatigue the next day. Try consuming less amount of alcohol before going to bed in order to have a good night's rest.

7. Reduce stress

Stress and fatigue are strongly corelated. Stress is the leading factor that makes one feel extremely tired and mentally exhausted.
