Edema is defined as the accumulation of excessive amounts of fluids that causes swelling in the body tissues. The most commonly occurring places of edema are hands, arms, ankles, feet, and legs. edema may be the result of the after-effects of injuries or it may also occur during pregnancy. Underlying health disorders such as liver, kidney, and cardiovascular disease may also cause edema. edema can also occur as a result of the side effects of certain medications. 

The common causes of edema are physical inactivity, burns, surgery, poor diet, excessive consumption of salt, arthritis, and diabetes. Symptoms of edema include swelling of the skin, stretching of the skin, weight gain, aching body parts, and stiff joints. Less severe forms of edema usually subside on their own. Healthy diet

A balanced diet that is rich in fresh fruits and vegetables helps in reducing swelling and inflammation in the body. The foods which help in reducing the water content in the body are seafood, fish, beans, nuts, sunflowers, peas, almonds, potatoes, and whole grains. Other options include foods and oils that are rich in monounsaturated fatty acids and omega 3 fatty acids.

Drinking plenty of water 

When water retention occurs in the body, consumption of water should be increased as it helps in cleansing the body. Caffeine and alcohol should be avoided as they trigger the onset of edema.

Reducing the consumption of meat

Meats such as cured meat, red meat have high sodium content which negatively affects various body systems like the liver and gallbladder. It also impairs digestion which may further aggravate edema. 

Limit salt consumption 

Intake of excess amounts of salt may increase the risk of developing edema. Consumption of salt in large quantities may lead to the retention of water in the body tissues. Prepackaged snacks and fast foods that have high salt content should also be avoided in those suffering from edema. Fried and canned foods also contain extra salt for the process of preservation which may trigger water retention in the body.

The main functions of flaxseeds are reducing swelling and promoting the process of detoxification which helps in the elimination of harmful substances from the body. Coriander seeds

Apple cider vinegar
