The term hyperlipidemia refers to the elevated lipid (fat) levels in the blood. Having hyperlipidemia indicates that the levels of both cholesterol and triglycerides are high in the body. Hyperlipidemia is a chronic condition. It can be treated and reversed in most cases by eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly. Hyperlipidemia is the underlying cause of various health disorders such as metabolic syndrome, diabetes, and obesity. It is also a leading cause of coronary artery disease, peripheral arterial disease, and stroke. Hyperlipidemia is known to be a “silent killer” as it does not manifest any serious signs or symptoms until it causes serious health problems. 

Natural remedies for Hyperlipidemia

Hyperlipidemia is a genetically inherited disease. The presence of hyperlipidemia in the body increases the risk of developing diseases of the blood vessels. These can in turn lead to stroke and heart disease. The most commonly used medications for the treatment of hyperlipidemia are statins. Foods that Heal

  • Omega-3 fats increase good cholesterol and reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids include sardines, tuna, salmon, herring, and mackerel
  • Foods that are high in soluble fiber help in binding cholesterol in the digestive system. This makes their excretion easy. Eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, sprouted nuts, and seeds increases the fiber content in the body
  • Olive oil has anti-inflammatory properties. It is also rich in antioxidants and macronutrients. It boosts the levels of HDL
  • Garlic and onions are cholesterol-lowering foods. They reduce LDL cholesterol as they contain sulfur that helps in cleansing the arteries
  • Apple cider vinegar can naturally lower body cholesterol. Apple cider vinegar increases bile production. It also supports the functioning of the liver, which is crucial for cholesterol metabolism
  • Herbs such as basil, rosemary, and turmeric contain antioxidants that are cardioprotective. They also help in lowering cholesterol naturally.
  1. Fish Oil 

EPA and DHA are the main omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil. They help in reducing the overall cholesterol levels. Studies show that consumption of fish oil can help in reversing metabolic abnormalities that lead to the accumulation of cholesterol in the body. Taking Alvizia fish oil supplements is effective in reducing body cholesterol. 

  1. Red Yeast Rice 

Red yeast rice is extracted from rice after fermentation with a type of yeast known as Monascus purpureus. It is an important ingredient used in Chinese medicine to reduce cholesterol. Chromium is vital for the smooth metabolism of fats such as cholesterol. Adequate chromium intake makes the arteries healthy. It also reduces the levels of blood cholesterol. When chromium is administered in combination with niacin, it is effective in managing the symptoms of hyperlipidemia. It also protects heart tissue. 

  1. Milk Thistle

Milk thistle is a major contributor to maintain heart health as it helps in lowering high cholesterol levels. Milk thistle lowers the inflammation in the body. It helps in cleaning the blood and prevents the damage caused by oxidative stress in the arterial walls. Intake of milk thistle is beneficial in those suffering from diabetics along with hyperlipidemia. Alvizia milk thistle supplements help in improving heart health. 

  1. Garlic

  1. Quit Smoking

Smoking cigarettes is known to increase the levels of bad cholesterol and triglycerides. quitting smoking is crucial for improving hyperlipidemia.

  1. Essential Oils

Consumption of lemongrass oil is beneficial in sustaining healthy levels of triglycerides in the body. They also reduce the amount of LDL (bad) cholesterol. This promotes the unobstructed flow of blood in the arteries. Thus it helps in protecting against the development of many cardiac disorders. Lavender oil is effective in lowering cholesterol levels as it decreases the stress levels in the body. Using Cypress essential oil lowers cholesterol levels and improves blood circulation. Rosemary oil reduces cholesterol and also supports cardiovascular health.
