TRIPLE GINSENG: THE MAN'S ROOT- A GIFT FROM NATURE TO ALL

Herbs have varied benefits on the health of the human body. But what if, you're told there is one herb that helps in maintaining the overall well-being of your body!

That herb is Ginseng. It is also called as "Man's root" as it is shaped like a man's limbs. It is the King of all Herbs as it has beneficial effects on the entire human body. Ginseng is one of the precious herbs which were widely utilized in ancient Chinese medicine. It is an oval-shaped root and popularly sold as a dietary supplement.
Sources: It is a perineal plant and the only source of ginseng is the Ginseng plant that belongs to the genus Panax and family Araliaceae. There are various types of this herb but the most popular ones are the American Ginseng (Panax Quiquefolius) and Korean/Asian Ginseng (Panax Ginseng).

Ginseng is widely found in the cold climate regions of Canada, the United States of America, the Korean Peninsula, Northeast China, Russia. The taste of ginseng is sweet with an after bitter taste. Its popularity is due to the treatment of wide ailments and promoting health.

There are two major constituents of ginseng- ginsenosides and gintonin. They are majorly found in the roots. There are two types of ginseng available:

Wild Ginseng: Also called as Mountain Ginseng. It grows naturally in the wild, but it has become extinct in China and is endangered globally

Ginseng is of three types depending on the way it is dried

Fresh Ginseng: Also called as green ginseng, it is the freshest and vulnerable form as it is the non-dried raw product. It is rarely available now

White Ginseng: When the fresh ginseng is peeled and air-dried such that it loses up to 12% or more water it forms the white ginseng. It is less therapeutically active as during the drying process it loses many active constituents and turns into white color

Red Ginseng: Like the white ginseng, red ginseng is also a dried form of the fresh ginseng, but it is dried using the steaming process at a temperature of 1000 C. It is widely used in herbal formulations and is red in color as it is steam dried.

Health Benefits of Ginseng

Various researches show these are the following benefits of Ginseng:

Enhances Brain Function: Ginseng is widely used to improve brain function. It can have positive effects on brain memory, behavior, and mood. Due to this, Ginseng products are called adaptogens which helps in providing energy and decreases stress. Ginseng produces these effects on the brain by having an action on the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis.

May Treat Inflammation: Ginseng is a potent antioxidant that can help in treating inflammation and protects against oxidative stress.

Panax ginseng and Vietnamese ginseng showed inhibitory action on free radical-mediated lipid peroxidation. This suggests that Ginseng has a protective action against free radical-induced tissue injury.

May Treat Cancer: Cancer causes abnormal growth of cells in the body. Ginseng is found to have anti-proliferative action on cancer cells. After treatment with ginsenoside found in ginseng, the cancer cells changed to round shape and made fewer cellular contacts and ultimately died.

shows that ginseng can prove as a promising treatment option in treating cancer

May Treat Diabetes: Various studies suggest that ginseng is a promising therapeutic agent for diabetes prevention and treatment. In one study, it showed that 24 months of treatment with 3 to 4.5 g of Korean red ginseng (KRG) extract decreased glycosylated haemoglobin by an unspecified magnitude.

May Treat Erectile Dysfunction: Studies suggest that Ginseng may have

a role in treating erectile dysfunction. 20 patients were given ginseng reported improved erection compared to the placebo group. It was found that rigidity, penetration, and maintenance of erection were significantly higher after 12 weeks of ginseng treatment.
